Victorian Certificate of Education

Ozford High School Programs

An introduction

Ozford College offers Year 10 and the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

VCE is Victoria's highly valued university preparation course of study conducted in a minimum of eighteen months and a maximum of 2 years. The VCE Program at Ozford College has been designed to meet the satisfactory completion requirements of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

Year 10

The Year 10 Program is a preparation year for the VCE. Year 10 students are provided with a comprehensive curriculum. All Year 10 students study the same subjects. These subjects are designed and taught so as to assist students to make the change from the way they were taught in their home country to the Australian way of teaching and learning. There are 9 subjects and each subject delivered as two semester units, one in each semester. For a list of Year 10 subjects click here

VCE Units 1 & 2 (Year 11)

The Year 11 Program is the first year of the VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education). Subjects are organized into semester long Units. A normal student workload in Year 11 is 12 Units in a full year (6 each semester). English as a Second Language (ESL) must be included in the 6 units studied each semester. Students select 6 subjects from the list of subjects offered. For a list of Year 11 Subjects click here
VCE Units 3 & 4 (Year 12)

The Year 12 Program is the second year of the VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education). Subjects are organized into year long sequences. A normal student workload in Year 12 is 5 Units 3 / 4 sequences (each sequence is a full year subject) over the year. English as a Second Language (ESL) Units 3 / 4 must be included in the 5 sequences. Generally, for best results, each of the subjects selected for Year 12 should have been studied in Year 11. Students select 5 subjects from the list of subjects offered. For a list of Year 12 subjects click here.

Assessment Methods

Subjects in VCE and VCAL are assessed by a combination of:

  • Submitted work
  • Practical Reports
  • End of Semester Tests
  • Project and Assignments
  • Oral Assessment
  • Year 12 - Exams and SACS (School Assessed Coursework)

Minimum Requirements to obtain the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

The minimum requirement is:

  • Satisfactory completion of 16 units which include:
       o Three units from the English group, with at least 2 Units at Unit 3 or 4 level;
o Three sequences of Units 3 and 4 studies other than English.

Usually, these requirements mean that students must satisfactorily complete (Pass) at least six Units from the Year 11 Program (Units 1 & 2) and 5 Unit 3 / 4 Sequences from the Year 12 Program.

Some other combinations of Units from the Year 11 and Year 12 Programs may also lead to meeting the minimum requirements.
