Course Aims
This course is designed for learners who want to develop general English language and literacy skills and knowledge to participate effectively in the Australian community.
On successful completion of this course, a participant will be able to:
- research pathways and produce a learning plan and portfolio;
- use Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing skills to give complex presentations for further study;
- read and write complex texts for research purposes;
- analyse and participate in complex spoken discourse for further study;
- read and write a range of complex texts for further study;
- use a range of critical reading and writing skills for further study;
- use language analysis skills to review own texts
- take notes from complex aural texts for further study.

Qualification Pathways
Educational outcomes and pathways include courses within the Certificates I to IV in ESL so that students can consolidate English language skills, cultural knowledge and prepare for entry to education or employment.
Assessment
Assessment will be a Learning and Assessment pathway.
Participants will be advised of the assessment requirements at the beginning of each unit.
Assessment will usually commence in the session following delivery. As this is a competency based program, assessment continues throughout the program until the participant either achieves competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed.
The assessment process may include theory, projects and practical assessments.
Formative assessment is provided throughout the course in terms of practice. This is achieved through using the tasks outlined in the learners’ resources as practice. These tasks are separate to the summative assessment process that concludes each unit of competency
Requirements to Receive the Qualification
To receive a qualification, students are required to successfully complete all units of competence for the qualification level.
