Course Aims
The focus of this qualification is employability skills where English is the medium of communication. It is designed as a ‘bridging’ course to provide a range of learners with language skills for a variety of work or study pathways.
On successful completion of the course a participant will be able to:
- develop and document a learning plan and portfolio;
- use listening and speaking in straightforward exchanges which require some detail;
- use reading and writing skills with straightforward texts;
- develop other skills and knowledge relevant to participation in the Australian Community or workplace.

Qualification pathways
Educational outcomes and pathways include courses within the Certificates I to IV in ESL so that students can consolidate English language skills, cultural knowledge and prepare for entry to education or employment.
Assessment
Assessment will be a Learning and Assessment pathway.
Participants will be advised of the assessment requirements at the beginning of each unit.
Assessment will usually commence in the session following delivery. As this is a competency based program, assessment continues throughout the program until the participant either achieves competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed.
The assessment process may include theory, projects and practical assessments.
Formative assessment is provided throughout the course in terms of practice. This is achieved through using the tasks outlined in the learners’ resources as practice. These tasks are separate to the summative assessment process that concludes each unit of competency.
Requirements to Receive the Qualification
To receive a qualification, students are required to successfully complete all units of competence for the qualification level.
