English for Secondary School Preparation

If you would like to study in an Australian Secondary High School, this is the course for you. There are three levels of English for Secondary School Preparation with a new topic each week to study and interesting life experiences to enable you to practice your English communication skills. There are also subject specific texts and activities to give students the vocabulary and exposure to the kinds of texts they will need to be successful in the mainstream classroom. We also give students the opportunity each term to share an authentic high school classroom experience in Ozford College. Students may join an Art, Maths, Science or even an IT class. Secondary School Preparation Class is integrated into the General English Program. Students have the option to participate in a variety of real High School classes, so they can get a taste of High School life at Ozford.

Intensive High School Preparation Tutorials
This is an optional tutorial program to help students who fall behind their study
schedule and face difficulty of getting into high school on time. This program is only available
in Term 2 and Term 4. Classes will generally run after main study hours and student number
will be limited to 4-6 per class to maximise learning outcome. Charges apply for this program.

Speaking: Brainstorm the new unit for the week and discuss
Reading: From ‘English in Mind’ (Text Book). Teach reading skills to practice throughout the day.

Grammar: Introduce grammar point, complete exercises and practice activities.
Phrasal Verbs: Teach Phrasal Verbs using the text ‘English Phrasal Verbs in Use’

Grammar: Introduce the second grammar point, complete exercises and practice activities.
Pronunciation: Use the book ‘Pronunciation in Use,’ study units targeted to student needs.

Listening Presentations, students to deliver their presentations linked to the week’s theme.
Reading: Complete the assessment for the week or practice the skill learnt earlier in the week.
Grammar Test: Test for the grammar taught in the week.

Art Class: Choose a suitable art activity and pre-teach vocabulary for example: shading, colour in, fold etc.

Writing: Introduce writing task, provide example and practice in class. Provide students with writing assessment and/or homework for further practice.
Listening: Practise Listening skills and complete activity

Excursion: Excursion to a place related to the unit for the week.
Movie: Students watch a film and complete various activities such as a text response, role-play or answer questions. Movies are watched over two weeks and analysed thoroughly.

Sport in the Park: Students are taken to the park to play sport. They engage in physical activities normally undertaken in High School.
