English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Students who wish to enrol in tertiary level courses may need English language preparation.
The EAP course has been designed specifically to develop the language
and relevant skills required to cope with tertiary level studies.

 
Qualification:  Ozford Certificate of English
Duration:  10 weeks per cycle (Module EAP A & EAP B)
Levels:  Upper Intermediate - EAP A or EAP B
Advanced - EAP A and EAP B
Hours:

20 Hours per week

- Listen and take comprehensive note identifying key ideas and supporting information.

- Read complex academic texts including essays, reports, newspaper articles, magazines, journals, Short stories etc.

-  Identify structure of texts and main grammatical and lexical features of each text type

- Identify targeted audience, purpose and register of text

- Read for global understanding

- Read for main ideas and specific information.

- Develop skimming and scanning strategies.

- Critically analyse online texts for authenticity and relevance.

- Read and take notes of key ideas

-  Write a range of academic texts for a variety of purposes and audiences such as:

- Opinion Essay

- Discussion Essay

- Research Report

- Procedural Text

- Formal Letter

-  Develop writing process skills:

 Brainstorming
 Planning
 Drafting
 Editing

-  Referencing sources and writing Bibliographies
